URGENT!!

On their stationery lists, all students were asked for $7 to pay for the Science Road Show coming to Maeroa this term. This is a hands on experience which the students will love, but only 4 out of 30 have paid. Please, please, please send the money with your child asap. This is too good to miss.

Thanks so much to those of you who have paid. Your child will really enjoy it and learn a lot!

Update: 15 students have now paid. Please keep the fees coming! There are 400 places booked and we want ALL our class to have the opportunity.

Swimming Sports

These will be held on Wednesday morning of this week. Bring ORANGE clothing to wear and put it on at school. Come in your uniform as the afternoon will be our normal programme. Please- no shiny wigs - they drop mess everywhere. No face or body paint either - that's also messy.

Bring togs, towels, hats and wear sunblock. As well as the swimming team we will need a class relay for the width relays at the end.

Family members are welcome to come and watch and support our team.

Three weeks already!

We are now nearing the end of week three. Most of the class have settled in, are working really well together and showing respect by using their manners, speaking kindly to each other and moving quietly around the school.

We have goal setting conferences in early March and all caregivers are invited to make an appointment to come in and set a goal with their child. The appointment slip is in the newsletter. These are student-led conferences. I am available for a brief chat, but for any lengthy discussion, you will need to meet with me at some other time.

Some students are still without stationery, PE uniform, correct shoes and togs. It is very, very difficult to expect children to participate in a learning programme when they are constantly without the tools of their trade. If you are having difficulty providing these, please contact the school to ask for support. I am more than happy to keep PE uniforms at school and wash them myself, if it would help to make sure the uniforms are always there when needed.

We are a team - you, me and the class. When we support each other to help the students learn, they will learn about teamwork as well as other lessons. Thanks for providing such a great bunch of kids to Room 18!

Appreciating what we have

Today we discussed what life is like in some other countries and the importance of education. This is the video clip I talked about.

Thanks to the families who came to the picnic evening

It was great to meet some of you for the first time and others for the second time. Thanks so much for coming!

Parent/Whanau Picnic Dinner Evening

Remember that tomorrow, 11th February 5:30 – 7:00pm, we will be holding an informal meet the team evening. This will be held at the school pool where you will have the opportunity to ask questions, meet your child’s teacher and the rest of the team, in a relaxed, informal situation. Please bring your family, togs for those who would like a swim, and a picnic dinner for your family to share. This is an excellent occasion to share in your child’s learning and find out about the opportunities available, particularly in this first term.
Please come along, we would love to meet you!

First day of school

Welcome back to the students from 2013 and welcome to the new students of 2014. Most students arrived on time; in their uniforms and with stationery - very organised learners!

We spent time getting to know each other and showing the new students the school and how things happen here. They will have brought home a Student Management Plan, which explains how our learning behaviour system works at Maeroa. Please read this. You both write your names and sign it and return the tear off slip to me.

The students also have a Rimu team newsletter giving information about the year. Please read this too. We really want to take everyone away for camp, so please get those weekly payments organised. $5 or $10 weekly soon adds up into enough to pay for the trip.

Finally there is a homework task - filling in the faces of a cube with information about themselves. They don't have to make the cube, just add information to it. They can also use the pattern to make a larger one if they wish. Words, photos, drawings - anything showing what they like to do and who they spend time with, will be great!

We will put the cubes together in class on Friday.
